Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 30, 2026
Splita ("we", "our", or "the service") is a lightweight group expense-splitting web application. We believe in collecting as little data as possible. This Privacy Policy explains what data we handle, how we handle it, and your rights.
What we collect
When you use Splita, the following information is stored in our database in order to make the service work:
- Group names you create
- Member names you add to groups
- Expense entries (title, amount, date, payer, participants, optional notes)
- The randomly generated group identifier (slug) used in shareable links
We do not collect or require:
- Names, email addresses, or phone numbers for account creation
- Passwords (Splita has no login or sign-up)
- Payment information
- Location data
- Device fingerprints or advertising identifiers
Storage on your device
Splita uses browser storage and an essential preference cookie to remember:
- Your preferred language (stored in an essential cookie)
- A list of groups you have recently visited (stored in localStorage so they can appear on the home page)
These preferences stay on your device and can be cleared through your browser settings. Splita does not use advertising or analytics cookies, and it does not use third-party analytics.
Where your data is stored
Group and expense data is stored in a managed PostgreSQL database (Neon) hosted on secure cloud infrastructure. The application is deployed on Vercel. Both providers maintain industry-standard security practices.
Who can see your data
Splita uses single-link collaboration. Anyone with the unique group link can view and edit the group. Group links contain a randomly generated identifier, and Splita instructs search engines not to index group pages. Treat your group link like a password and only share it with people you trust.
We do not sell or rent your data. Vercel and Neon process service data as infrastructure providers so that Splita can be hosted and operated.
Data retention
Group data is retained as long as the group is in active use. We may remove inactive groups after extended periods of inactivity. If you would like your group data deleted immediately, please contact us (see Contact page).
Children's privacy
Splita is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent changes.
